Khairete!

I have two things to announce this evening. First of all, information on the Agrotereion, the newest Catalean Temple, has been posted on the Cataleos website. Photos will be coming soon (and the site is amazing!) but for now we have the text up there for everyone to check out. Take a look at http://www.cataleos.org/templeagrotereion.html

Secondly, I am pleased to announce the 2009 Elaphebolia Photo Hunt. The Elaphebolia celebrates Artemis as both a huntress of and protectress of all wild creatures. Enjoy the thrill of the chase and show your appreciation for nature with the Elaphebolia Photo Hunt. Take a picture of any wild creature you find and email it to Cataleos by October 13th. For more details on how to enter (such as the email address, which I am trying to shield from too much spam), visit http://www.cataleos.org/actcont.html

Good luck and enjoy your hunt!

Khairete!

Cataleos is about to go through some major changes. Instead of typing it all out here, I will direct you to the newly updated and renovated website: http://www.cataleos.org/index.html Just hit refresh if you still see the old pages. We're heading into some wonderful and exciting changes, and I can't wait to see where things go.

Along those lines, a new Temple of Artemis is going to be founded in New Hampshire on September 6th. Send me an email if you'd like to come to the founding ceremony! We'll probably also throw in some Kharisteria stuff. Fun for the whole family! (or something)

Yay Artemis!

I've been on this mailing list for a Shinto temple in Washington, and I'm probably about to get kicked off. I've never seen anyone disagree with what gets posted there, and I just did. The thing is, the head priest of the temple posted an article which pushed some MAJOR buttons for me. I probably shouldn't have responded at all, but I've been holding my tongue a lot lately, and this time it just had to come out. Even so, I only gave a short response and I tried to be respectful. The full response is coming out here.

The article is about the supposed benefits of vegetarianism. Now, many of my friends are vegetarian. I respect that. Really I do. I was even vegetarian myself for a while. What I do not respect is misinformation, propaganda, and general bullshit.

The article, cut because it's long and abnoxious )

My response, cut because the article makes me very, very angry. )

Why do they hate cows so much?

The guys who made the bullshit video about PETA need to do another one about this.

Khairete!

I am pleased to announce that the members of Neos Alexandria have begun work on the third volume in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

To help promote the revival of traditional polytheistic religions we are launching a series of books dedicated to the ancient gods of Greece and Egypt. Volumes will contain essays, poetry, devotional material, original artwork, and even recipes or sheet music, all focused on a particular divinity. The library will be a collaborative effort drawing on the combined resources of the different elements within the modern Hellenic and Kemetic communities, in the hope that we can come together to praise our gods and share our diverse understandings, experiences and approaches to the divine. All of the proceeds for these books will go to help promote the worship of the gods of Greece and Egypt, by being used to put on a Greco-Egyptian religious gathering in 2009, bring out further volumes in the series, or given to charitable causes in the name of the gods.

This volume will be dedicated to Artemis, the ancient Greek Goddess of hunting, animals, and wilderness.

Please consider submitting your work to this worthy cause!

Send submissions to artemisdevotional@gmail.com

* All submissions must be received no later than September 30, 2008.
* All submissions must be the original work of the author.
* Multiple submissions by the same author are fine – and encouraged!
* Material that has been published in other places will still be
considered, provided the author retains their copyright to the work.
* Each author retains all rights to their work after publication.
* For more information about submission requirements or to request further details about the project, please email your questions to artemisdevotional@gmail.com

Feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think might be

I'mma do the things
That I wanna do
I ain't got a thing
To prove to you
I'll eat my candy
With the pork and beans
Excuse my manners
If I make a scene
I ain't gonna wear
The clothes that you like
I'm finally dandy
With the me inside
One look in the mirror
And I'm tickled pink
I don't give a hoot
About what you think

About this Entry

To all my friends, colleagues, and associates:

I've been dealing with personal stuff. Everything is fine. In fact, everything's pretty awesome. Yay! However, I am still just now crawling out of my hole and becoming social and active again. If you've haven't heard from me in a while, please don't take it personally.

The Mounikhia festival has been postponed (obviously) as I wasn't really in a space where I could deliver effective ritual during this past full moon. If folks are interested in attending a Mounikhia ritual on May 17th or 18th, let me know. If enough people are interested, I'll put one together then. In either case I'll be putting on a rogue (i.e. not on the official schedule) Mounikhia ritual at this year's Free Spirit Gathering in June.

I'll be sending out rules and info for the Mounikhia candle contest in the next few days. Submissions will be due on May 19th, so if you already know the deal, start thinking about your entries.

Thank you to everyone for putting up with these delays while I get my personal life back in order, and thanks to everyone who has lent me their support.

I also, however, have very little free time and am frikkin exhausted in the evenings now... but it's a contented sort of exhaustion. This whole month is booked solid except Sundays, and Sundays are MINE ALL MINE to do with as I please. Hehehe.

About this Entry

Friends, colleagues, and fellow Pagans,

I am pleased to announce the publication of my first book: Dancing in Moonlight: Understanding Artemis Through Celebration. In this book readers will discover six modern festivals celebrating the ancient Greek Goddess Artemis and two joint festivals celebrating Artemis and Her twin brother, Apollo. Many (but not all) of these festivals are adapted from ancient Greek festivals, and all these modern celebrations are made uniquely applicable to the modern day. Dancing in Moonlight discusses what one might get out of participating in each of these festivals, and describes how to create your own celebration uniquely customized for you or your group.

Dancing in Moonlight should be available through Amazon.com and other retailers in a few weeks, but you can get your copy now by going here: http://www.lulu.com/content/1568962

My thanks go out to the folks at Asphodel Press for all their help and for putting up with my new author neuroses; to Neokoroi for all their support and wonderful feedback; to Lori for the cover art; to my test readers for their insightful commentary; to everyone who has ever attended a Cataleos festival; and, of course to Artemis.

I hope you enjoy Dancing in Moonlight and find something positive to take from reading it.

About this Entry
anime
I made two attempts at applying for a job today. While writing my cover letter email for the first, my attempt at formatting paragraphs (involving the tab key and the enter key) wound up in me sending an unfinished email to the prospective employer. I finished the letter as fast as possible and sent it, hoping they would understand that there was a technical malfunction, but then in my nervousness forgot to attach my resume, so I had to send them a *third* email with the resume attached. Great. Nice first impression (sarcasm). I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to call me back.

The second had a fax number for resumes (I don't have a fax machine) or a phone number to call. I called, and got an answering machine saying they were closed, which then listed normal business hours, according to which they should have been open. Oh, and their machine doesn't take messages.

This really sucks. I guess the best I can do now is pray the first place is sympathetic to technical difficulties and try calling the second place again later. My resume is actually really strong for both advertised positions... it's just been a while since I've done the looking for work dance, and I'm kinda clumsy at it now.

In other news, the boy is supposed to contact his school in Norway today and find out what his options are for coming here as a student, so hopefully updates on that situation will be coming soon.
